Abstract

Wilhelm Dilthey analysed philosophically what was involved in biography and applied his theories in several biographies. He saw the job as combining the meaning the subject of the biography saw in his own life and expressed in words and deeds, with the biographer's view from outside, based on a study of the wider cultural and historical context.
