Many graphics software packages for microcomputers have application in the classroom. These commercially prepared packages can be used for visually presenting concepts in virtually every academic field. They allow teachers and students to quickly and accurately create and present data, diagrams, drawings, or charts. Graphics software can be an effective instructional tool for assisting the hearing-impaired students in visualizing and comparing ideas. Graphics software can also demonstrate spatial relations and encourage creativity. This article will describe a variety of these programs and how they have been used with a deaf population.
