Prof. Alfons Parczewski – (somewhat) forgotten organizer of legal studies at the Stefan Batory University in Vilnius

Abstract

Objectives The article discusses the figure of Prof. Alfons Parczewski as a determined and indefatigable organizer of the Stephen Báthory University in Vilnius and its Faculty of Law and Social Sciences. He deserves to be reminded for his great services to the university in Vilnius. Material and methods The text was penned using the historical and legal method. The author relied on historical records obtained from an archive in Vilnius. Results Since today Vilnius University is no longer within the Polish territory, the text will have both a research and informative character for the international community of lawyers and historians of law. Conclusions Based on the studied resources, Prof. Parczewski was part of the core group of the university founders and worked on the legal programme for the law faculty. He pursued his duties boldly and with great enthusiasm. He did it even at the expense of his stable life. At the age of 70, he moved from Warsaw to Vilnius to sit as first dean of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences.
