Dualizm rozumu praktycznego

Abstract

Poszukując racjonalnej metody naszego moralnego rozumowania, Henry Sidgwick dochodzi do wniosku, że rozum praktyczny jest niespójny i nakazuje nam działania, które w pewnych okolicznościach są ze sobą sprzeczne. Naszą ostateczną powinnością jest bowiem zmierzać w takim samym stopniu do osiągnięcia naszego własnego, partykularnego szczęścia, co i szczęścia ogółu. Mamy zarówno obowiązki natury egoistycznej, jak i natury utylitarystycznej. W sytuacji konfliktu – kiedy dla dobra ogółu powinniśmy poświęcić dobro własne (lub odwrotnie) – rozum nie jest w stanie wskazać nam, które z działań należy wybrać. Ostatecznie musimy przyznać, że nie da się do końca zracjonalizować naszych moralnych wyborów. Tzw. problem dualizmu rozumu praktycznego był i jest poruszany przez wielu wybitnych filozofów, w tym: Rogera Crispa, Johna Skorupskiego czy Dereka Parfita. Praca niniejsza jest próbą naświetlenia rozważań Sidgwicka dotyczących dualizmu rozumu praktycznego, źródeł dualizmu oraz współczesnej recepcji tego niezwykle poważnego dla etyki problemu.
