The objective of this project was to develop an automatic system to monitor eggshell quality. A self-designed inspection unit based on pressure loading and de-loading technique was combined with the image processing system to replace human eyes to monitor eggshell quality automatically. The other major components within the developed system include an upright transportation mechanism and the mechanism to separate good eggs from bad eggs. The completed system was evaluated by running eggs without- and with-cracks through the system. The successful rates for eggs without- and with-cracks inspected by the developed system were 86 % and 80 %, respectively.
