Abstract

This paper gives an overview of California and its cthnic makeup. It then explores the reasons behind the co~nmitmenot f the University of California to meet the special needs of its multilingual and multicultural constituents, why the libraries of the university ought to and are playing a major role in this effort, and some of the strategies that are bcing used individually and collectively by thc libraries of the university in working toward this goal.
