Big is beautiful. If that is the case, however, then beauty kills. As proven by international healthcare consensus and numerous research studies, being too big (obese) is highly dangerous to your health, increasing the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (and associated medical complications), hypertension, coronary heart disease and stroke, cancer, osteoarthritis, infertility and liver disease. And at a projected cost to the NHS of £6.3 billion a year by 2015 (Foresight, 2007), overweight and obesity is not a cost that the Government nor the Department of Health are willing to pay – and rightly so.
