Kazanie kanonika Mikołaja Ciotczanego na zgon biskupa poznańskiego Andrzeja Łaskarzyca (1426)

Abstract

The sermon of canon Mikołaj Ciotczany on the death of Andrzej Lascarii, bishop of Poznań (1426) Abstract The text contains an edition of the sermon given during the exequies after the death of Andrzej Lascarii, bishop of Poznań (1414-1426), a notable diplomat, scholar, participant of the councils in Constance and Pavia, one of the architects of Polish political thought and the doctrine of the rights of nations, who died on 23/24 August 1426. The author of the sermon was most probably Mikołaj Ciotczany, canon of Poznań. Besides lengthy theological and philosophical refl ections, the sermon also contains interesting biographical information about the deceased. The sermon survives together with several others by Ciotczany in the manuscript Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, Preußischer Kulturbesitz, sygnatura Ms. Theol. Lat. Fol. 408. That manuscript, certainly produced in Poznań, contains also several theological texts and merits further study.
