Parentalidade Positiva e Enfermagem: Revisão Sistemática da literatura

Abstract

Support for positive parenting is critical in the first three years of life and requires a positive approach based on the potential of involving parents and family, implying demands and challenges for nurses. This literature review aims to identify the issues and strategies for nursing intervention to support positive parenting for children under three years old. Literature from 2000 to 2010 in EBSCOhost and ISI Web of Knowledge databases was searched to locate studies that included aspects of positive parenting and nursing interventions with healthy children under the age of three years. Nine papers met the inclusion criteria. The variables and programmes focused on the following themes: parents’ empowerment, children’s behavior, development and stimulation, positive parent-child interaction, children’s health and safety, positive discipline, and building social capital. Intervention strategies in individual work with parents and discussion groups showed improvements in empowering parents and building social capital. The need to respond to these issues and the gains resulting from interventions highlight the opportunity for nurses to improve care for the child and family.
