A geometric variational problem on a periodic domain

Abstract

Αυτή η διατριβή επιλύει επιτυχώς ένα γεωμετρικό πρόβλημα στον λογισμό μεταβολών το οποίο προκύπτει στην μελέτη βιολογικών συστημάτων. Πιο συγκεκριμένα, βρίσκουμε δύο λύσεις αυτού του προβλήματος κάνοντας την υπόθεση ότι το πεδίο ορισμού είναι ένα περιοδικό πλέγμα στο επίπεδο. Η πρώτη λύση είναι ένας διαταραγμένος δίσκος και η δεύτερη είναι η ξένη ένωση πολλαπλών διαταραγμένων δίσκων. Στο τέλος προσεγγίζουμε τα κέντρα αυτών των δίσκων στην περίπτωση που ο αριθμός των δίσκων είναι δύο και σε συγκεκριμένα παραδείγματα πλεγμάτων.
