In the past 15 years, police work in Sweden has been changed from only reactive police work toward a more proactive approach. The proactive police work has been an important trend in modern police management. In the mid-1990s, the Swedish police introduced problem-oriented policing, and currently the Swedish police are working with the implementation of an intelligence-led policing. Both of these proactive approaches rest upon an idea that police work should be based upon decisions that are derived from various forms of structured analyses of information. This new way of carrying out police work creates a need to be better in dissemination of information in order to work proactively and implicitly to be better able to prevent criminal activities.
