Coccinia subsessiliflora, a new record for Kenya and notes on its phylogenetic position

Abstract

Coccinia subsessiliflora (Cucurbitaceae) is newly recorded for Kenya, from South Nandi Forest. A morphological description and notes on its distribution and ecology are provided. A molecular phylogenetic analysis of 22 species of Coccinia based on the nuclear DNA sequence of the LEAFY-like 2nd intron was conducted, and the phylogenetic position of C. subsessiliflora is indicated.
