Sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus) control became a major undertaking, relative to many other programs in aquatic biology. In several respects, the history of the program, outlined here, provides an informative prototype that might be usefully considered by aquatic biologists. F. E. J. Fry played an influential role in the development of the program.
