Three specimens of Halargyreus johnsonii Günther, 1862, 190, 345, and 381 mm standard length were trawled in 700 fath at 39°09′N, 72°11′W, a westerly range extension of some 1200 miles. The two larger specimens were just barely mature. The stomachs of all three were everted; the lower intestine of the largest specimen contained some grit. The largest specimen was host to a caligoid copepod. In addition to Halargyreus, the trawl captured 515 individuals in 22 species of deepwater fishes.
