Seedling characters including anthocyanin pigmentation of eight species of Cicer, C. arietinum, C. pinnatifidum, C. judaicum, C. cuneatum, C. chorassanicum, C. anatolicum, C. montbretii, and C. pungens, representing all four sections of the genus were examined. The results support the concept of a separate monogeneric tribe, the Cicereae Alef.
