Some formulae and representations of the nth order Rayleigh functions, $\sigma _n $, and their associated polynomials, $\phi _n $, are used to determine polynomials which dominate, or are dominated by, $\phi _n $, and to discuss improved lower bounds for their real roots. In the process the ties between $\phi _n $, and the Catalan numbers are enhanced.

| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 4 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
