The RCVS has just launched a consultation on a new educational framework for advanced nursing qualifications. It covers two new post-registration qualifications – a graduate certificate and postgraduate certificate in advanced veterinary nursing. While it’s great to see more advanced qualifications for nurses come on stream, the reality is that these qualifications do not signal any significant or tangible change that will allow vet nurses to work differently. Even when the first cohort of nurses have successfully completed one of these new courses, they won’t be authorised to carry out any new clinical tasks.
