Abstract The first commercially successful Diesel engines were a product of American manufacturers, but now large Diesels are being built principally in Germany. This country, however, is making considerable headway in manufacture of engines up to 1000 b.hp. per cylinder. The author discusses developments in atomization, combustion, and supercharging. He feels that there is now a need for standardization, but it must not interfere with progress.
