Abstract

Eddy van der Maarel, a founding editor of Journal of Vegetation Science and Applied Vegetation Science, and an Honorary Member of the International Association for Vegetation Science, recently celebrated his 80th birthday. On this occasion, we are delighted to publish his guest editorial, a personal view on species diversity.
