Power quality is one of the major requirements in power system operation and design. A power factor that is close to one is a good indicator for the overall power quality, especially for an electrical power system with high uptake of commercial loads with a large amount of inductance. In this paper, the authors present a technique applicable for power factor correction using EMTP-RV software as a modeling tool. The considered numerical examples are a good fit regarding teaching at undergraduate levels, and responds properly to demands from industry.
