A simple offline method for measuring the magnetizing inductance of an asymmetrical six-phase induction machine is presented in this paper. The measurement procedure is based on dc excitation and it is performed at standstill. As opposed to the standard no load test, the magnetizing inductance is measured solely with the stator leakage influence significantly diminished. Additionally, the iron losses in the machine and their influence on the measurement are reduced considerably. The proposed method is applicable regardless of whether the neutral point of the machine is accessible or not. The method is verified through finite element analysis and experimentally. The obtained test results confirm the accuracy of the proposed approach.
