Researchers have studied pervasive computing in many domains, but few are as complex as the home. Decades of early-adopter use of smart home technologies have blazed the path and highlighted numerous research challenges. Today, the long-standing vision of pervasive computing, commonly referred to as the Internet of Things, is finally starting to come to fruition in people's homes. The articles in this special issue showcase the diverse range of research in domestic pervasive computing.
