The Study on Dual Response Surface Method in MDO

Abstract

Complex products are integrated by many subsystems through complex couplings. Most subsystems come from many different disciplines. In order to get the best solution, multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) is developed to improve the performance of complex products. In order to improve the product in the process of design, robust design is required to reduce the variance of quality. The method of response surface has been used in robust design for a long time. In this paper, a method of robust MDO using dual response surface method is illustrated. As an improvement of RCO, a new RCO framework is showed. Considering the applicability of system uncertainty analysis, the dual response is used to take the place of system uncertainty analysis module. The framework as well as some numerical expressions of this new method is showed. At last, the flowchart is concluded to make the guidance to implement of this method.
