In this paper, the application of wavelet denoising to the estimated Power Delay Profile (PDP) from measured UWB indoor channel responses was investigated. Unlike the conventional thresholding scheme, which cut-off the values below a threshold to suppress artifacts of the measurement system, the wavelet-based denoising scheme is smoother. Wavelet denoising accuracy depends on several factors, like the type of the wavelet basis function, threshold selection rule, hard or soft shrinkage and the number of decomposition levels. The wavelet-based denoising procedure has been applied to the ultra wideband channel measurements collected from a measurement campaign, which has been performed within the whyless.com project by the IMST group, to fight against some spurious effects due to channel sounder setup imperfections, noise and interference, causing some statistical moments distortion.
