In this paper, a single stage buck boost DC — AC inverter called Switched Boost Inverter (SBI) is proposed. The objective of this paper is to study the operation principle and analysis of the SBI along with open loop and closed loop simulation. This novel power converter is a derivative of Z Source Inverter (ZSI) that exhibits all the advantages of ZSI and uses lower number of passive components compared to that. The unique feature of ZSI is that it can operate either in buck or boost mode with the help of impedance network. This allows shoot through switching state of inverter legs to boost the input voltage. The modified Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) techniques used to incorporate the shoot through interval in each switching cycle. The harmonics spectrum of the inverters output voltage also plotted. The closed loop control of circuit were done using Proportional Integral (PI) and Fuzzy controller. This PI-Fuzzy controller increases the system reliability and simplifies controller designing. MATLAB and Simulink were employed for simulation studies validation of the proposed technique. Simulation result proves the advantages of proposed method.
