RTC Based Solar Power Multi-Level Inverter

Abstract

Power quality is a very important aspect in power system. The harmonics can be produced from various power electronics devices. This paper proposes a new fifteen level cascaded multilevel inverter. The inverter battery is charged using both solar and from service main. Solar is used to charge battery during day time and service main for the night time. If solar fails in day time the battery charges from service main. The battery charger will not take any supply from the service main during peak hours. Charging of the inverter battery during peak hours from the service main is isolated using real time clock circuit (RTC) controlled relay. Use of multilevel inverter helps to reduce the percentage of total harmonic distortion (THD) considerably.
