This paper propose a novel single phase single stage inverter for photovoltaic systems. In different to conventional two stage converter, the proposed converter either step-up or step down the PV input dc voltage and convert to ac directly in a single stage. Converter is sourced from a single PV source and a single buck boost inductor as storage element for both half cycles. This results a symmetrical operation without any parameter difference. The configuration is simple, compact and less weight as it has lesser components. Since, the converter works on buck boost principle, it can be used whether required ac voltage is lesser or greater than input PV voltage. It has zero dc component at ac output because of its symmetrical operation and hence a favorable THD. Detailed design based on analysis of the converter is revealed in the paper. Simulation results presented validates the proposed converter topology and its control schemes.
