Stray losses in structural solid steel parts of three-phase power transformer are predicted using 3D finite element method (FEM). The computation is made under time harmonic steady state load condition, treating the transformer core magnetizing characteristic as non-linear. Various kinds of modeling of the thin steel plates for estimating stray losses due to leakage magnetic field are applied and their results are discussed. Numerically computed stray losses are compared with those measured in practice.
