In this paper a compact reconfigurable planar antenna capable of exciting an omnidirectional radiation pattern as well as eight different directional radiation patterns is presented. The antenna exploits Composite Right Left Handed materials to achieve small form factor. Self-resonant parasitic elements are used to tune the direction of radiation of the antenna while preserving good impedance matching at 2.4 GHz for all configurations.
