A capacitor-loaded broadband circular patch antenna

Abstract

In a previous study, it was found that the operating frequency of a circular patch antenna could be varied as much as 65%, without significantly affecting the radiated power from the antenna using chip capacitor loaded scheme. In this study, a multiple feed scheme to combine with the loaded chip capacitor scheme is used to provide a broadband operation for the circular patch antenna. The simulated results for three patch antennas of different sizes are presented. It was found that the usable bandwidth for the circular patch antenna could be as wide as 19.2% as compared with the center frequency using this scheme.
