This paper presents a novel adiabatic smart card design. The smart card is compliant with the ISO/IEC 14443 Type B standard, with a carrier frequency of 13.56 MHz and a data rate of 106 Kbps. The adiabatic smart card is powered by an RF carrier coupled into the smart card through an external coil. The adiabatic smart card uses an AC voltage supply, which does not require any internal full wave rectifier and regulator circuits for power supply. The complete adiabatic smart card architecture and the RF interface circuits are presented in this paper.
