A wideband low-profile antenna by integrating single-layer planar metadielectric

Abstract

A low profile dipole antenna with a planar metadielectric is presented for wide operating bandwidth. The planar metadielectric is composed of single-layer patterned subwavelength square patch unit cells. The effective permittivity and permeability of the planar metadielectric are extracted. The single-layer planar metadielectric loaded dipole antenna with a ground plane of 1.46λ × 1.46λ achieves a wide impedance bandwidth for VSWR < 2 over 4.64–6.36 GHz with a reduced overall height of λ/13.
