For many years, single-phase static phase converters have been used to supply power to three-phase motors from single-phase distribution systems. However, the main disadvantage on many loads is that while virtually perfect current balance can be obtained at a given load, the balance cannot be maintained over a wide motor-load range. The results of using a patented balancing configuration that is integrated with a static phase converter are outlined. The auto-adjust controller offers many new uses for static phase converters in rural areas on pumps, compactors, and hammermills as well as in urban areas on elevators, lift stations, and compressors. >
