Many organisations have clear career paths for staff which may, if an individual is good enough, take him or her to a place on the decision‐making board. As yet few information specialists have achieved this goal but the opportunities for career advancement are opening up and it is important that those who aspire to middle and senior management are ready to grasp the chance should it be offered.
