For several years now, the IBA has been awarding Research Fellowships to enable studies to be carried out investigating the relationships between education and television. The scheme, which started in 1967, has produced some fifty reports, which have varied from modest studies of single programmes to ambitious year‐long projects. As the scheme developed, those directing it moved to support of the longer projects, since it was found that the shorter efforts did not, on the whole, allow time for researchers to develop their work to the full.
