Much of the writings on leadership have emphasised the personality of the leader as having the major influence on organisational form and behaviour. Liz Clarke describes in this article some of the organisational determinants of leadership behaviour, but goes on to emphasise the leader's role in influencing and changing these factors in controlling the boundary between the organisation and its environment.
