The issues concerned in the transition from school to work are infinitely more complex than they may at first appear and probably have their roots in the values that underpin society and the principles by which society is organised. Fundamental questions are raised concerning the value and nature of work, as well as the purposes and methods of education. Close analysis demonstrates that we need to identify and meet crucial training requirements both for the young people involved in this process and those adults (teachers, trainers, supervisors) who are responsible for their growth and development.
