In the crystal structure of the title compound [4-methylphenyl (E)-3-phenylpropenoate], C16H14O2, the benzene ring of the cinnamoyl group is slightly distorted due to conjugation with the double bond. The mean plane of the cinnamoyl group forms a dihedral angle of 61.1 (1)° with the plane of the cresyl group.
