Abstract

The cross sections for pi /sup -/ + p yields pi /sup -/ + pi /sup +/ + n at inc ident energies between 260 and 430 have been measured in a previous expeniment. A theoretical interpretation of these results is presented. An attempt is made to fit the results by using a direct pion-pion interaction. The contribution from the interaction of the incident pion with a pion in the nucleon cloud was computed using the impulse approximation. (W.D.M.)
