Nuclear fission reactions induced by the electromagnetic field of relativistic nuclei are studied for energies relevant to present and future relativistic heavy-ion accelerators. Cross sections are calculated for {sup 238}U and {sup 239}Pu fission induced by {sup 12}C, {sup 28}Si, {sup 197}Au, and {sup 238}U projectiles. It is found that some of the cross sections can exceed 10 b.
