Cross Sections for Nuclear Reactions Involving Nuclear Isomers

Abstract

Cross sections for the reactions Cr/sup 52/(p,n)Mn/sup 52m/, Cr/sup 52/ (p,n)Mn/sup 52/, Ag/sup 107/(p,pn)Ag/sup 106m/, Ag/sup 107/(p,pn)Ag/sup 106/, an d Cu/sup 63/ (p,n)Zn/sup 63/ were determined as a function of energy with the 20.6-Mev proton beam of the U.C. L. A. synchrocyclotron The relative yields of Sr/sup 85/, Sr/sup 85m/, and Sr/sup 87m/ obthined in the proton bombardment of rubidium were also determined. In all cases the isomer yield ratios varied with energy over the entire energy range studied. The results are discussed in terms of conservation of angular momentum, assuming compound nucleus formation. (auth)
