Radiative corrections associated with the electromagnetic field have been determined for the decay of a fermion of arbitrary mass into a lighter one with the emission of a single boson or of two other fermions; no special assumptions have been made about the nature of the interaction responsible for the instability. The particular example of the muon-electron decay has been worked through in detail. Sufficiently accurate experimental determination of the muon spectrum would permit the observation of a Lamb term without vacuum polarization. Modified formulas for the Michel parameter $\ensuremath{\rho}$ are given.

| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 192 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Top 10% | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Top 0.1% | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Top 10% |
