Summary: We present some variants of the mathematical phenomenon of cavitation in nonlinear elasticity. The paper is motivated by experimental work on pressurized elastomers, the fundamental mathematical work of \textit{J. M. Ball} on cavitation [Philos. Trans. R. Soc. Lond., A 306, 557-611 (1982; Zbl 0513.73020)], and by an example of degenerate cavitation due to the author [Ann. Inst. Henri Poincaré, Anal. Non Lineaire 9, No. 6, 657-681 (1992; Zbl 0769.49030)].
