Guiding children through elementary school has made us keenly aware of a salient fact: almost everything we need to know to function successfully in society, we learn by the age of 10. Although physics and calculus may be necessary obstacles to overcome on certain career paths, it is the things such as Blearning to share,[ Bcompromise,[ and Bdealing honestly with people[ that are integral to becoming decorous citizens. In this respect, primary education serves as a kind of Bpreparatory school[ for life, analogous to the role minor leagues play for major league baseball or proving grounds play for testing military equipment. It is part of the natural order of life, whereby knowledge, skills, and technology evolve over time to become refined and sophisticated.
