NOTE ON A PREVIOUS PAPER ON MATRICES WITH POSITIVE ELEMENTS

Abstract

Es sei \(A\) eine \(n\times n\)-Matrix mit positiven Elementen, \(y\) ein Eigenvektor von \(A\) mit positiven Elementen (also zur Maximalwurzel von \(A\) gehörig) und \(u\) ein beliebiger positiver Vektor. Bezeichnet man stets die \(i\)-te Komponente eines Vektors \(x\) mit \(x_i\) und für \(r = 0,1, 2,\dots\) das Maximum (Minimum) von \((A^r u)_i/y_i\) (\(i = 1,\dots, n\)) mit \(M_r\) (\(m_r\)), so konvergiert \(M_r/m_r \searrow 1\). Die früher [Verf., Q. J. Math., Oxf. II. Ser. 2, 286--290 (1951; Zbl 0043.33304)] geäußerte Vermutung, daß \(y'A^r u/\| A^r u\|\) eine monoton steigende Funktion von \(r\) ist, wird durch ein Gegenbeispiel widerlegt.
