This article attempts to spell out the main tenets of the principle of state neutrality and to explain how they hang together. It examines the central objections, and explores revisions that may enhance the theory's defensibility. Specifically, it discusses neutrality as non-discrimination, neutrality as shared reasons, objections to liberal neutrality, and religious neutrality.
