</script>Influenced by the writings and example of John Calvin, Presbyterians developed a worldview that rested on the premise that God was supreme over all life and that social institutions and practices should be based on biblical norms. In numerous societies, this led them to strive to develop political, economic, and social structures grounded on their understanding of scriptural teaching. Their worldview also motivated them to work to improve economic and social conditions, reduce discrimination and poverty, and promote people’s full development as image bearers of God. Their diligent efforts to achieve these aims in America, Scotland, Canada, Africa, and Asia had a substantial impact.
