Abstract In order to determine differences in rates of growth of the terminal shoots, 7 lots of Pinus taeda L., each from a different geographic source, and one of P. serotina Michx. were measured at intervals during one growing season in Uruguay. Results indicate that trees from origins where growing seasons are longer make a greater percentage of their growth in the latter part of the growing season, and trees from areas subject to frequent droughts grow more slowly.
