Selected biological characteristics of Liriomyza huidobrensis (Blanchard) were determined under constant laboratory conditions, using chrysanthemum, aster, and pea as host plants. Larval development time was shorter on peas than on chrysanthemum or aster; no differences were found when durations of the egg or pupal stages or adult longevity were compared among the three hosts. The pattern of feeding and oviposition throughout the female life span was similar on all hosts. More feeding usually occurred on chrysanthemum; however, the largest number of pupae per female and the greatest pupal viability (73%) was obtained from insects reared on peas, suggesting that they are the optimal host for L. huidobrensis .
