Abstract

THREE stimuli completely outside the contemporary discussion of the historical Jesus gave rise to the form of this essay. The first was Marcel Proust's Remembrance of Things Past, which attempts through fiction to rescue reality from the attrition of forgetfulness. The second was Lawrence Durrell's Alexandria Quartet, in which a four-dimensional form is attempted in order to tell the truth about characters
